Appearance:
Alice's hair is dark brown and long. She doesn't bother tying it up and instead compulsively tucks it behind her ear. She is 5' 8" with inquisitive hazel eyes. Her clothing choice is practical when she's out in the field: khakis and button downs. While teaching she's dressed as a professional in a suit or a skirt with a nice blouse.
Her posture is stern at times but her expressions can soften her presence. She holds herself with confidence and intelligence while her eyes usually shine with curiosity, intrigue and wonder. Alice has an English accent. Her sentences are often smooth and spoken as if reading poetry with a succinct sort of clarity. She doesn't smell like heavy perfumes but she does have rose oil that she lightly dabs on her wrists when she works in the field. Otherwise she ends up smelling like the wind or rain due to her extended time outside.
Setting:
Alice is from modern day England. There is just one important part that’s different and that’s the world of the Hidden. The Hidden are species who seek to keep their secrets and oddities away from the public eye. There are many types of Hidden and not all of them are known. Alice doesn't know of anything super natural due to her canon point.
History
Alice grew up in the country side of Surrey in south England. Her and her older sister lived their with their father. Her older sister, Emily, is five years older than Alice and as such they share little in common besides their love for animals, each other and their father. When Alice was five her mother passed away leaving only a few memories of her. The most notable memory is being given the book 'Alice in Wonderland'
Her father was a field researcher and he would take Alice out on his adventures telling her that the world was larger than it seemed. Alice loved her father very much and kept all of his field journals in the library of their home. He taught her about the earth and made her want to learn more about the planet that they lived on. Her older sister took on some of the responsibilities of their mother, allowing for Alice to play in the garden with her cat and document the world around her. Their father died of cancer when Alice was in high-school. There was little money to be had so her sister dropped out of college and became a baker. To this day she lives in Surrey urging Alice to pursue her dreams. They both live in the house they grew up in, with Alice's cat: Snowdrop. However Alice is very rarely home.
Alice's education lead her to a field position like her father. She spent a few years traveling around the world seeing different sites and studying them while working on her thesis and research. She's well known within a few different fields of geology.
Alice, by title, is a Mineralogist with a PHD in Mineral Geology, a Masters in Environmental Geology and a background in Historical Geology. She thinks that the history and health of the earth can explain how rocks form and grow and while it's been difficult within the field of study Alice has become a respected geologist in her own right.
Personality:
Alice is stubborn, strong, independent, loving, imaginative, passionate, intelligent and open-minded. She's learned a lot from her father and hasn't ever forgotten his lessons. He would often quote Alice in Wonderland as if the story pertained to her life. His favorite thing to tell Alice was: "Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality." and these words always stuck with her.
Working in a field dominated by men has made Alice strong, fierce and stubborn. She won't take no as an answer and she won't underestimate others based on sex, age, background or any other discriminating factors. She believes in people, in what they're capable of if only they opened their eyes to what was in front of them. In this new age science and facts are the way to make people believe so that's what she's doing.
Alice has spent her life learning and she considers each day a chance to learn something new. She is very intelligent and the greatest proof of that is accepting that she doesn't know everything and opening up to learn from others.
Due to the influence of Alice in Wonderland and her father, Alice dares to dream. She sees wonder in many things though nature above all else. Life is short and she wants to see the beauty in the world and the wonder. She lets her imagination flex and run wild at times which can lead to new discoveries and new experiences.
Alice has a great capacity for love. She can be stern when it's needed but also affectionate and kind. She loves nature, animals and is passionate about everything she does. She puts all of herself into everything she does, never willing to put forth less than what she can do.
Powers/Abilities/Talents:
Alice is human and has no super natural abilities or powers. She is very talented and very smart but it is mostly due to her stubborn nature as well as her open mind. She's good with names and faces and remembering random facts however to commit something to memory she usually has to write it down.
